About this beach

Full description

Boca de Tomatlán, affectionately known simply as "Boca," is much more than just a small fishing village: it is a destination with unique natural beauty and the gateway to the pristine southern beaches of Banderas Bay. Description of the Beach and Village Boca is distinguished by its rustic, local atmosphere. The main beach is small, with golden sand, and framed by the green hills of the Sierra Madre. The most notable feature is that this beach is literally the mouth (boca) where the Horcones River flows into the Pacific, creating a dynamic and picturesque landscape. This confluence means the waters near the shore are an interesting mix of fresh and salt water, with a color that varies by season. The village is full of life; you will see simple beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood and locals and fishermen carrying out their daily activities.

How to get there

Public Bus (The most economical option): Where to Catch It: At the bus stop located on the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución (next to the OXXO) in the Romantic Zone. Route: Look for the bus with the sign for "Boca de Tomatlán". (This is the same bus that passes Mismaloya). Estimated Cost: Approximately $10 - $15 MXN per person. Taxi or Uber (The most comfortable option): You can request a taxi or an Uber service (or similar) directly from Downtown or the Malecón. Travel Time: Approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Estimated Cost: Varies, but expect to pay between $350 and $500 MXN. Be sure to agree on the fare with taxis before boarding. Self-Driving: Follow Federal Highway 200 south. The turn-off to the village of Boca de Tomatlán will be clearly signposted on the right-hand side. Remember the parking limitations.

Expert tip

Key Logistics Fact! Boca de Tomatlán is the operations center for those looking to explore the South Coast. Water taxis (pangas) gather here to take visitors to paradisiacal beaches like Yelapa, Las Ánimas, or Quimixto. (But we'll talk about that in more detail in another article). Practical Information and Parking Due to its size and geography, public street parking in Boca de Tomatlán is very limited. If you plan to arrive in your own car, you will need to consider using one of the available private parking lots. These usually charge a daily rate starting around $150 Mexican pesos (MXN) per vehicle, generally covering the hours from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
