About this beach

Full description

Quimixto is not just a beach; it’s a full-day experience that combines a boat ride, the atmosphere of a rustic village, and a motorized expedition to an impressive waterfall. It is ideal for tourists seeking more than just sunbathing. Destination Description Quimixto beach has light-colored sand, and its bay is open, so the surf is usually moderate to strong, depending on the season, making caution advisable when swimming. The main attraction is not the beach itself, but the full excursion it offers: The Village: Upon disembarking, the beach gives direct access to the small, picturesque village of Quimixto. It is a rustic and tranquil place that maintains a traditional atmosphere, offering a few palapa restaurants. The Waterfall (El Cora): The great attraction is reaching the El Cora waterfall. To ascend, you must follow the riverbed; the most popular and exciting way is by ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles) or by horseback.

How to get there

Access to Quimixto is primarily by sea. Water Taxi from Boca de Tomatlán (Recommended): This is the fastest and most convenient option. The trip takes approximately 20 minutes. The cost for the round trip is approximately $260 MXN per person (on regular service). Walking: Access to Quimixto is possible from Boca de Tomatlán via the mountain trail, but we warn that the path is very long, difficult, and inconvenient for the average tourist. It is recommended to avoid it.

Expert tip

Once you disembark at Quimixto beach, prepare for the journey to the waterfall: Primary Option: ATVs (Quads): The most popular and exciting way to go up to the waterfall is by ATV. The price per person is approximately $500 Mexican pesos (MXN). If the tourist does not know how to drive, there is no problem, as the tour includes a driver, and the ATV can carry up to two people plus the driver. Alternative Option: Horseback Riding: Horseback riding remains an option, with an approximate price of $300 Mexican pesos (MXN) per person. Food and Prices: Upon reaching the restaurant at the waterfall, it is common to find high prices and food that is not always the best quality. It is advised to eat before or after the visit elsewhere, as the main attraction is only the waterfall. Conditions in Rainy Season: In the rainy season (June to October), the ATV ascent depends on how high the river is, although it is usually easy to cross it on ATVs. However, if there is very strong flooding, the path may become inaccessible for safety. Waterfall Swimming (Rainy Season): During this same season (rainy season), the waterfall usually has a lot of water and an imposing force. For safety, it is not advisable to swim in the pool due to the powerful forces of nature.
